Equity in Employment: The Intersection of Employment, Race, Poverty, and Culture

This 1-hour webinar will explore the effects race, poverty, and culture have on employment outcomes. Participants will learn:

  1. The current state of employment in communities of poverty

  2. The role employers play in welcoming diverse candidates

  3. The role service providers play in preparing job-seekers who come from impoverished communities

  4. The role individuals and their families play in achieving successful employment outcomes

About the Presenters:

Sara Taylor, she/her, is a Community Liaison and Training Specialist at Eleversity focused on corporate and organizational training and social justice issues. Taylor’s 25-year career in nonprofit services ranges from direct care front line social worker to senior level administrator. In addition to her job at Eleversity, she has managed a consulting business for more than 20 years, providing leadership development training and capacity building services to small nonprofit and faith-based organizations as well as managing professional conferences throughout North America. Sara obtained her master’s degree in Human Service Administration from St. John Fisher College. She has received certificates in leadership development, completed several ministry and theology training courses and holds ministerial licenses. Sara also serves on numerous advisory boards and steering committees at the local, state and national levels.

Adrian Hale, he/his, is a native of Rochester, NY, Adrian Hale and serves as the Senior Manager of Workforce / Economic Development & Education Initiatives at the Rochester Chamber of Commerce. As a United States Marine, he made two combat deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to Afghanistan and served with the United States Air Force reserves.

Adrian has helped create market-driven training programs. He is helping lead the regional conversation on diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace with the creation of Creating Opportunities in Rochester for Equity in Employment (COREE), an initiative to remove barriers to advancement for historically marginalized stratums in the labor market. He will be leading a regional talent strategy initiative designed to better coordinate efforts and collaboration among K-12 systems, colleges, and employers to attract, recruit, and retain new and incumbent workers into the Greater Rochester workforce. To date, Adrian has trained over 500+ people throughout greater Rochester and works with organizations to meet their inclusion goals.
