The National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) serves as a vital partner in workforce development, connecting employers with the talent they need while supporting state innovation and promising practices nationwide. At the heart of NASWA’s mission are its 10 policy committees, each advancing meaningful solutions in workforce policy and practice. Its Veteran Affairs Committee stands out as a powerful resource with current membership representing over 907 years of military service and administering the U.S. Department of Labor’s Jobs for Veterans State Grant (JVSG) program, providing direct customer services to Veterans, Transitioning Service Members, and military spouses. Their mission: to ensure Veterans have a smooth transition into civilian careers and to connect employers with a highly skilled and disciplined workforce.

During this session, you’ll learn how the committee has successfully advanced policies to expand access to career services for all veterans, including those with disabilities. You’ll also gain insights into the role of the National Labor Exchange (NLx), NASWA’s partnership with DirectEmployers, in powering Veteran-specific job portals and creating direct pathways between employers and Veteran candidates, most recently with the latest initiative with the U.S. Navy to spotlight high-quality federal jobs in the maritime industrial base across multiple NLx job sites.
